Secrets

There in the darkness
Waiting to be revealed
Hiding behind laughter
Sinister with pain
Mute through time
Now speaks uneasily
Destroys with its power
'Tell me', whispers urge
Fleeting strands
Too difficult to grasp
Begin the betrayal

  1. Beautifully written!

I’m not sure if this is the best way to describe this poem. Is there beauty in having secrets you are not allowing others to see? The power behind each word not only strengthens the images of the impact upon oneself but also the destruction accumulated over time.

It brings tears to my eyes knowing that I have secrets that I am afraid of sharing. For me – my secrets shouldn’t be secrets. There is no reason why I should be ashamed of my past. They have only become secrets to protect myself from the power others may use against me. When the secrets are hidden, greater protection is felt. Laughter often a traitor to the false security held.

The best line would have to be – ‘Tell me’, whispers urge. There is great hope the pain will dissipate with sharing. Yet one should not live life in fear, one must wait for the right time to answer these whispers.

  2. Very nice progression from the dark hidden to the powerfully destructive revelation. Intuitively on the mark.
